Nach dem was ich bisher von The Honeydrips gehört habe sind Mikael Carlssons überwiegend elektronisch instrumentierte Popsongs eine große popkulturelle Referenztravaganza, mit Songtiteln wie Lack Of Love Will Tear Us Apart oder James Dean als zentraler Figur in Fall From A Height das auch Filmzitate aus Annie Hall sampelt und später wiederum von The Field in der letztjährigen !!!-Kollabo umgewerkelt wurde. Aber am besten gefällt mir Hej Då Karolin, da macht Carlsson eine (ohne jetzt den Text zu verstehen vermutliche) monströs schmalzige Ballade aus Riz Ortolanis Titelmelodie der feinsten italienischen Kannibalen-Exploitation aller Zeiten: Eine romantische Version von Cannibal Holocaust.

Luke Turners Quietus-Artikel reißt zwar im Rahmen seiner versuchten Demontage des Hypes um Florence & The Machine die wirklich interessanten Punkte nur an (die Lückenfüllarbeit von Tippabgebereien der Musikpresse zum langsamen Jahresbeginn, die PR-Profitabilität aufgesetzter Exzentrik für Frauen in der Musik), gibt aber gutes Material zum Weiterdenken und -forschen. So ist es sicher nicht uninteressant zu erfahren dass von den 15 brandneuen Up&Comern die die BBC propagiert ganze zehn auf Majorlabels sind und die Liste sogar zur Hälfte nur aus dem Frühjahrsprogramm von Universal besteht. Ein Schelm wer dahinter PR-Einfluss vermutet. Oder?

AVC: You've described your upcoming album as "wimpy." What's wimpy about it?

JR: Well, at first I thought it was going to be wimpy, sound-wise, which I don't think is much of a departure from the last two singles collections I've done. But the mood of the record might be a little more wimpy. I'm not turning into a singer-songwriter or anything, but I guess the songs have changed from being about other people to being a bit more, dare I say, introspective. It's a more vulnerable record.
Dem Interview des A.V. Clubs mit Jay Reatard nach nach waren die letzten Songs auf Matador Singles 08 also wirklich, wie ich schon erhofft hatte, richtungsweisend für das nächste Album. Das scheint laut Myspace-Ansage schon so gut wie fertig zu sein, vielleicht gibt es darauf auch ein Wiederhören mit dem vor zwei Wochen auf seinem Blog geposteten Demo A Whisper, selten einfühlsam und melancholisch und mit beinahe fünf Minuten schon bald so lang wie ein komplettes Konzert des Mannes.

The Tough Alliance - Make It Happen

War ja klar, da ignoriere ich eine Band jahrelang bis ich auf einmal obsessiv von ihr fasziniert bin. Nach dem Lesen mehrerer Berichte hab ich mittlerweile das Gefühl dass The Tough Alliance sich einen Spaß daraus machen Journalisten unterhaltsame Lügen aufzutischen, aber die Anekdote (aus diesem Artikel der es so aussehen lässt als würden sich in Göteborg Air France, Tough Alliance, Studio und Jens Lekman jeden Tag des Jahres zum Fußball- und Badmintonspiel treffen und anschließend zusammen saufen gehen) ist, ob wahr oder nicht, zu gut um sie nicht weiterzuverbreiten:

At Air France’s first and only show a year ago, where they were meant to DJ but drunkenly attempted to play their elaborately tracked songs on a couple of borrowed instruments, Fürst and Berglund saved the day by jumping onstage with their friends, and the crowd got so hyped that both bands and all of their fans were immediately thrown out by security. Schon das Cover lässt es vermuten, Dan Deacon will mit seinem nächsten Album Bromst nicht mehr bloß als spinnerter Partypriester angesehen sondern auch mal verdient als Komponist ernst genommen werden. Mit Stücken wie Get Older sollte ihm das auch gelingen, sofort hört man dass hier jemand durchdacht wirbelnde Percussions und regenbogenbunt bliepende Elektronik zu schwindelerregender Pracht arrangiert hat, der Effekt bleibt wohlgemerkt glückselig überladen wie eh und je. Das Stück gibt's auf Myspace oder besser Imeem zu hören, gerade bei letzterem empfiehlt es sich auch den Ton für den vollen Effekt ordentlich laut zu drehen.
